    • Résumé :
Resilience can help cope with a volatile and uncertain world. It is not designed to provide solutions to the causes of the shocks and stresses, but rather to establish a baseline from which we can operate, recover, and move forward. In simple terms, it is about surviving and thriving. Yet, resilience, whether professional or personal, requires an appropriate mindset or set of beliefs if it is to be effective. That mindset is shaped by values, attitudes, culture, responsibilities, and experiences which, in turn, mould the way we incorporate new knowledge and how we make sense of the world and ourselves. It influences how we think, feel, and respond in any given situation. This book looks at the resilience mindset by taking a philosophical journey. As we live in a world of constant change, both self-imposed and inflicted, philosophy can help us understand how to cope positively and rise to the inevitable challenges. It is why philosophy down the ages has attracted students who want a deeper appreciation of resilience. Ultimately, it is the resilience of the human spirit that gives hope to human endeavours. Here is a deep dive into the human aspects that lie behind our resilience. It examines topics such as being stoical, facing our fears, realizing our virtues, finding our values, seeking truth and trust, and coping with change. A review of the significant contributions made by philosophers past and present gives insights into the thinking and mindsets of people who have delved into the subject of resilience over the centuries. It all provides valuable lessons for dealing with today s crises and challenges....

      Biographie:
Robert Hall has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Zoology from the University of Bristol, a Post-Graduate Certification in Education from the University of Cardiff, and a Master of Social Science degree in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Birmingham. After university, he joined the British army where he met several animals and served for 17 years before leaving for the business world in 1992. He has worked in senior managerial roles for a range of commercial organisations, including Jane s Information Group, Barclays, Marsh, BAT and G4S, focusing on resilience, risk and security issues. He served as the head of analysis for the UK s National Criminal Intelligence Service (now the National Crime Agency) from 1997 to 2000, and he was also the managing director of the Global Forum on Law Enforcement and National Security from 2000 to 2002. His last business appointment was as the cofounder and executive director of Resilience First Ltd, a membership organisation that promotes resilience in commerce. On stepping down in 2022, he condensed his knowledge of and experience on resilience in a book titled Building Resilient Futures which looks at various aspects of human resilience personal, emotional, organisational, urban, communal and national (Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd, 2023, ISBN: 9781035812622). Nature s Resilience is a sequel to Building Resilient Futures and The Resilience Mindset: A Philosophical Journey (Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd, 2025, ISBN: 9781035878284). This book is the last in the series on resilience. The author s first book, Soviet Military Art in a Time of Change: Command and Control of the Future Battlefield, was published at the end of the Cold War (Brassey s, 1991, ISBN: 0080413218). It arose from his work in the UK MoD (Defence Intelligence), where he obtained a defence fellowship. A historical novel The Triptych based on ancestral links was released by Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd in spring 2024....
