Von der Alten Geschichte, ?ber das Mittelalter und die Fr?he Neuzeit bis hin zur Geschichte des 20. Jahrhundert wird nach Mitwirkungsm?glichkeiten ?von unten? gefragt. Dies erlaubt einen transepochalen, multiperspektivischen und methodisch breiten Blick auf ein Ph?nomen bzw. Prinzip, das auch in anderen Wissenschaftsbereichen eine gro?e Rolle spielt. Im Zentrum des Bandes steht der historische Blick auf die vielf?ltigen Formen der Durchsetzung von Interessen und der politischen Partizipation durch Prozesse, die gewisserma?en ?von unten? (bottom up) Wirkungsmacht zu entfalten beabsichtigen. Aufgezeigt werden sollen Wege, die Erkenntnispotenziale dieser Ans?tze auch in der Geschichtswissenschaft st?rker auszuloten. Im Kern geht es darum, statt der in der Geschichtswissenschaft fest etablierten und bislang weit ?berwiegenden Top-down-Perspektivierungen, wenn es um Fragen von Herrschaft oder Politikdurchsetzung im weitesten Sinne geht, Formen, Ziele und Wirkungsweisen von Prozessen st?rker in den Blick zu nehmen, deren Sto?richtung prim?r ?von unten? ausgeht. Damit in Verbindung steht das Ziel, st?rker als bislang die Reziprozit?t von Top-down- und Bottom-up-Wirkmechanismen in den Vordergrund zu r?cken.

The question of participation from the bottom up is addressed in this book, drawing upon a wide range of subjects from ancient history, through the Middle Ages and the early modern period, to the history of the 20th century. This allows for a trans epochal, multi-perspective and methodically broad view of a phenomenon that plays a major role in other fields of science. The book's primary focus is on the historical perspective of diverse enforcement mechanisms and political participation, with a focus on bottom-up processes that aim to develop power to effect change. The objective is to identify ways to more thoroughly explore the potential of these approaches for historical science. The central issue pertains to the consideration of the forms, objectives, and consequences of processes that are predominantly initiated from the bottom upas opposed to the top-down perspectives that have historically dominated historical studies, particularly in the domain of rule or policy enforcement in the broadest sense. In this context, the emphasis on the reciprocity of top-down and bottom-up mechanisms assumes particular significance.
