The NHS is revered in the United Kingdom, yet despite the excellence of its staff, it is a service in constant crisis. On the seventy-fifth anniversary of the NHS, overworked and harassed NHS staff were low in morale, leaving in record numbers for careers abroad, and patient dissatisfaction hit record highs, driven by sky-high expectations. Something has gone very wrong. In The Delusion, Dr Michael Christopher uses his own first-hand experience of healthcare in the UK and other countries, both as doctor and patient, to unlock the origins and mythology of the NHS. Stripping away the nostalgia, and demonstrating that there are more than two options: the UK and the American system, he shines a light on how healthcare systems in the rest of the world could provide us with the tools to fix what is broken, and improve the lives of patients and NHS staff alike....
Sommaire:
Michael Christopher qualified as a doctor in 2001 at the University of Liverpool, and completed his GP training in London in 2005. Over the last two decades he has worked in a variety of settings in family practice in the UK, Singapore and Australia. While in Singapore he published several articles in various expatriate magazines. These experiences provided both the idea and the background that inspired the writing of this book. Outside medicine he has been a long-time observer, and occasional participant, in the political scene in the UK and the USA. He is married with two children and lives in Buckinghamshire....
