      • Résumé :
Charles Webster Leadbeater presents clairvoyance as a latent human faculty that can reveal hidden dimensions of life, consciousness, and spiritual reality. In Clairvoyance, he explains the concept from a Theosophical perspective, describing different forms of psychic sight, the conditions under which clairvoyant perception may appear, and the distinction he makes between ordinary perception and subtler modes of awareness. Leadbeater explores clairvoyance in relation to distance, time, symbols, astral perception, thought-forms, spiritual development, and the unseen structures of existence. Written for readers already curious about occult philosophy, psychic phenomena, and Theosophy, the book attempts to organize clairvoyant experience into categories and principles rather than treating it merely as mystery or superstition. Its tone is instructional, confident, and rooted in the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century occult revival. For readers of Theosophy, esoteric spirituality, occult studies, psychic development, and classic metaphysical literature, Clairvoyance remains one of Leadbeater's best-known introductions to the subject. It is especially useful as a historical primary text from a major Theosophical writer whose works helped shape modern occult, New Age, and metaphysical ideas about subtle perception and spiritual faculties....

        Biographie:
Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854-1934) was an English clergyman, Theosophist, occult writer, lecturer, and one of the most influential figures in the Theosophical movement after Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Originally ordained in the Church of England, Leadbeater became interested in spiritualism, occult philosophy, and Eastern religious thought, eventually joining the Theosophical Society. His move from Anglican ministry into Theosophy reflected the wider late nineteenth-century interest in hidden knowledge, comparative religion, psychic research, and alternative spiritual traditions.Leadbeater wrote extensively on clairvoyance, astral planes, chakras, thought-forms, reincarnation, spiritual evolution, and the unseen structure of the universe. His books helped popularize many ideas that later became central to modern esoteric and New Age spirituality, including subtle bodies, aura perception, spiritual hierarchies, and the development of psychic faculties. His writing is direct and explanatory, presenting occult subjects as systems that could be studied, classified, and developed through discipline and spiritual practice. He remains a significant and controversial figure in Theosophical history. His influence on occult literature was enormous, especially through works such as Clairvoyance, The Astral Plane, The Chakras, Man Visible and Invisible, and Thought-Forms, written with Annie Besant. At the same time, his personal life and conduct drew serious criticism and lasting controversy within and beyond the Theosophical movement. Modern readers often approach his work both as esoteric instruction and as historical evidence of the ideas, assumptions, and tensions that shaped Theosophy and the occult revival of his period....

        Sommaire:
Clairvoyance means literally nothing more than clear seeing, and it is a word which has been sorely misused, and even degraded so far as to be employed to describe the trickery of a mountebank in a variety show. For the purpose of this treatise we may, perhaps, define it as the power to see what is hidden from ordinary physical sight. Let me make two points clear before I begin...
