Holman Francis Day, an American author, was born in Vassalboro, Maine. The Holman Day House, his residence in Auburn, Maine, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rider of the King Log, based on his book, was filmed in 1921. Along Came Ruth, based on his play, was filmed in 1924. Day married Helen Gerald, the only daughter of Amos F. Gerald, a railroad engineer, and Caroline W. Rowell. She died in 1902 at the age of 32 and was buried at Maplewood Cemetery in her father's birthplace of Fairfield, Maine...
