Charles Douglas has been composing poems and singing songs since before he could read or write. A native Montrealer, he has lived and worked in many Canadian cities, and travelled and worked internationally for several years before settling on Vancouver Island in 1997. He brings to his poetry a lively combination of curiosity and feeling, a thoughtful sense of play, strong commitments to principle and craft, and a great love of people and the natural world....
Sommaire:
In short lyrics with playful, jazzy rhythms, these poems explore facets of the human experience of time, from impatience and anticipation to remembrance, wonder, aging, and a sense of mortality. Many of them engage with the natural world: birds, animals, insects, and a variety of trees. Often intimate, they range from reflective seriousness to outright goofiness, sometimes indulging these extremes but more often playing them together. These are short poems to be read and reread, preferably out loud....
