Présentation Black Cattle de Meilink, John Format Relié
- Livre Histoire
Résumé :
Black Cattle is a powerful and immersive exploration of the Dutch involvement in the 17th-century transatlantic slave trade. Through a gripping narrative set against the backdrop of historical conflicts and cultural intersections, this novel sheds light on the harsh realities of the time. It intricately weaves the perspectives of traders, captives, and colonial powers, highlighting the brutal rivalry between the Dutch and the English. With vivid characters, from the cunning Mussulman Ali to the resilient captives, and a richly detailed depiction of West Africa's Gold Coast, Black Cattle brings history to life. This thought-provoking story not only delves into the economic and political motivations of the era but also reflects on the lasting legacy of a dark chapter in global history. A meticulously researched and haunting tale, Black Cattle challenges readers to confront the human cost of colonialism and exploitation. Black Cattle (original Dutch title: Kroesvee) was published in the Netherlands in 2019 and has since been reprinted three times. The novel is included in the literature list of the official historical Canon of the Netherlands (June 2020). It is the first of four standalone historical novels (Sons of Japheth series) about the Dutch and the slave trade in the 17th century. Paperback and hardback versions are provided with more than 60 beautiful black and white illustrations....
