Présentation Across India de Optic, Oliver Format Relié
- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
Across India is a lively nineteenth-century juvenile adventure of travel, exploration, and discovery in the Far East by Oliver Optic, one of the most popular American writers for young readers of his era. Part of the All Over the World Library, the story follows Louis Belgrave and his companions aboard the steam-yacht Guardian-Mother as their travels bring them into contact with the landscapes, cities, customs, and history of India. Like many classic boys' adventure books of its period, Across India combines travel narrative, moral instruction, geography, excitement, and the pleasures of faraway places seen through the eyes of young protagonists. The book reflects the attitudes and assumptions of its nineteenth-century moment, but it also preserves the educational-adventure style that made Oliver Optic a major name in juvenile fiction. The journey gives readers a period view of India as imagined for American youth: exotic, instructive, dangerous, and full of story. Readers interested in classic juvenile fiction, boys' adventure stories, travel fiction, nineteenth-century children's books, and historical adventure will find Across India a useful example of the global travel series that once filled school, home, and library shelves. It belongs to the same broad tradition of adventure reading that taught geography, conduct, courage, and curiosity through stories of movement across the wider world....
Sommaire:
Oliver Optic was the pen name of William Taylor Adams, a prolific American author and editor best known for his many books for children and young readers. Born in 1822, Adams became one of the most widely read juvenile writers of the nineteenth century, producing school stories, travel adventures, boating tales, military adventures, and series fiction built around courage, discipline, enterprise, and moral development. His works include the Boat Club, Army and Navy, and All Over the World Library series, among many others. The Louis Belgrave books, including Across India, reflect the period's enthusiasm for educational travel fiction, presenting geography, foreign places, adventure, and conduct lessons through the structure of popular juvenile storytelling. Optic's books remain useful to readers interested in classic children's literature, nineteenth-century American juvenile fiction, boys' adventure stories, and the history of series publishing for young readers....
