      • Résumé :
Lo! is Charles Fort's strange, sceptical, and endlessly provocative catalogue of anomalous events, unexplained phenomena, scientific embarrassments, and facts that refuse to behave. First published in 1931, the book gathers reports of odd falls from the sky, strange disappearances, astronomical anomalies, mysterious observations, apparent teleportations, and other incidents that Fort believed had been too quickly dismissed, explained away, or forced into accepted systems of knowledge. Fort does not write as a conventional occultist, spiritualist, or scientific authority. His method is more unsettling: he piles up rejected data, mocks certainty, and asks what happens when official explanations become as dogmatic as the superstitions they claim to replace. Lo! continues the work that made Fort famous in The Book of the Damned, turning anomaly into a weapon against intellectual complacency. The result is a classic of Fortean literature: eccentric, funny, maddening, anti-systematic, and still influential in the study of the paranormal, unexplained phenomena, fringe science, conspiracy-minded thinking, and the cultural history of the weird. For readers of Charles Fort, anomalous phenomena, the paranormal, unexplained mysteries, sceptical occult literature, and the borderland between science and belief, Lo! remains one of the essential Fortean texts: a book less interested in providing answers than in making premature certainty look foolish....

        Biographie:
Charles Fort (1874-1932) was an American writer, researcher, and collector of anomalous facts whose work gave rise to the term Fortean. Fascinated by reports that seemed to fall outside accepted scientific explanation, Fort assembled vast files of strange phenomena: falls of animals and stones from the sky, mysterious lights, disappearing objects, astronomical anomalies, unusual weather, unexplained apparitions, and other events dismissed by conventional authorities. His books, including The Book of the Damned, New Lands, Lo!, and Wild Talents, helped shape later writing on the paranormal, UFOs, fringe science, scepticism, and the supernatural and unexplained. His style combines satire, intellectual mischief, and genuine archival curiosity, making him one of the most distinctive figures in early twentieth-century speculative nonfiction....
