Résumé :
Alex's summer is not going as expected. After the loss of her father, her mother feels that it is important for Alex to reconnect with her grandmother and her ancestral home in Hungary. She is whisked away to a foreign land for the summer. While exploring the attic in her grandmother's old house, Alex stumbles upon a secret entrance to another time and place. She is transported to a turbulent time in her own family's past. What started out as a boring holiday has evolved into a struggle for survival as she grapples with assassination attempts on her life, while avoiding an unwanted marriage. Alex's unpleasant introduction to her fianc?e evolves into a friendship as the two teens are thrown together in a world of war and conspiracies. Will she be able to return to her own time? Can she outwit the assassin who lurks around every corner? What other conspiracies bubble below the surface? What will become of her newfound love?...
Biographie:
As a child, I would often listen to the stories told by my immigrant parents about their pre World War II childhood years in Hungary. Their stories about scrambling through cobblestone streets and playing knights among ancient ruins fired my imagination. It wasn't until I visited my grandmother in Hungary as a teen that the history seemed to come alive. The air was heavy with the whispering of past voices. What a mesmerizing change from the environment where I grew up in small-town Ontario!I returned to Canada and studied English literature at the University of Toronto, while dreaming of one day giving history a light dusting on the printed page.A busy married life, including raising a family, made it difficult to put pen to paper until now. I am delighted to present this fictional account of a potential page in history....
