      • Résumé :
Jacob Abbott's Bruno is a gentle classic children's story about loyalty, patience, obedience, and the moral lessons that can be learned from a faithful dog. Written in Abbott's clear and instructive style, the book uses the life and behaviour of Bruno to teach young readers about kindness, self-control, duty, attention, and the consequences of good and bad conduct. It belongs to the nineteenth-century tradition of juvenile fiction in which story, character, and moral education are closely joined. Abbott understood children's literature as both entertainment and formation. In Bruno, animal companionship becomes a way to make abstract virtues concrete: fidelity is shown through action, patience through behaviour, and self-denial through small choices children can understand. The result is a short, accessible book suited to family reading, classroom use, early independent readers, and collections of classic moral tales for children. This SMK edition presents Bruno as a classic work of juvenile fiction from one of nineteenth-century America's most prolific educational writers. For readers interested in children's animal stories, dog fiction, moral tales, classic juvenile literature, read-aloud books, and early character education, Bruno offers a warm example of the older tradition of storytelling meant to delight, instruct, and quietly shape the young reader's judgement....

        Biographie:
Jacob Abbott (1803-1879) was an American author, educator, minister, and one of the most prolific writers of juvenile and instructional literature in the nineteenth century. Born in Maine and educated at Bowdoin College and Andover Theological Seminary, Abbott became widely known for books designed to teach children through clear storytelling, practical examples, and moral instruction. His work helped shape an important early tradition of American children's literature in which education, family reading, character formation, and accessible narrative were closely connected.Abbott wrote numerous books for young readers, including the popular Rollo series, the Franconia stories, biographical histories, educational works, and moral tales. His books often combine plain prose, domestic or everyday situations, and lessons in self-command, kindness, responsibility, and useful conduct. Bruno, also known by the fuller title Bruno...
