When we take water in our palm and chant the mantra, then the vibrations produced by the chant are absorbed by the water and we drink this energized holy water. This produces good vibrations in us. We should do the Sandhya Vandan for 1 year. Gayatri Japa of 108 times at morning, noon, and dusk is best. At noon we may shorten it to 12 times when we have less time. The whole Sandhya Vandan procedure should take 15 minutes or so. --------------------- In the long forgotten folds of time, the elite class were privy to a special ritual. One was the physical birth, the other was the wisdom-yoked birth. Not everyone qualified, mostly because the physical mind had not been lived to the full. For the planet Earth had to have its say. Nature had to be tamed first. The whirr of thoughts and emotions, tendencies and proclivities, likes and dislikes, multiple infatuations; needed to be diluted first. It did not happen overnight. Nay, it did not happen in o n e lifetime. It took a f e w lifetimes, say a mind of 200 years living over a change of 3 to 4 anatomical bodies. Only such an old mind albeit in a fresh body, was now capable. Capable of receiving and assimilating and expressing the finer principles. Emotions and desires bereft of fear, untinged with lack, not prone to guilt. For such a man, boy, child of 7 or older, the subtle forces paid a visit. Upanayanam Yagyopavit SandhyaVandan was established to reinforce the Intellect, give it proper direction, enable one to make correct choices and take pragmatic decisions for a brilliant life on planet Earth.

Ashwini is with the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ashram based in Punjab. He loves to practice Yoga, perform Homa, study Sanskrit and be at home. He was born in Ludhiana and completed his pre-University from Govt. College for Boys.
