Human beings are born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. That was certainly true for Crystal (Sloane) Hay. She came of age in the midst of the Great Depression in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She fell in love and married Bill Hay, but he was soon called up to serve in World War Two and came home damaged. Eventually, she was left to raise five children on her own. She was able to survive only through perseverance, hard work and a deep faith. This book tells her story, largely in her own words dictated near the end of her life. Daughter Faith Fisher has compiled and augmented her mother's story in an attempt to understand the troubled times in which she and her siblings grew up. The result is a compelling book that offers insights into another time and the enduring human condition.

Biographie:
Crystal Hay (1916-2004) was born in Alberta but grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She endured the difficult years of the Great Depression and World War Two. Her husband, Bill, suffering from a brain injury incurred overseas, died in 1963. She earned her LPN and raised their daughter and four sons. Her strong faith gave her strength, comfort and the resolve to overcome adversity, and enabled her to provide encouragement to others.
