Biographie:
Premchand, born Dhanpat Rai (1880-1936), was an influential Hindi writer and novelist from India. Known as the Munshi of Hindi literature, he depicted the realities of Indian society, focusing on social issues such as poverty, inequality, and the struggles of the common people. His works, including Godan and Nirmala, continue to be celebrated for their vivid portrayal of human emotions, social commentary, and deep empathy for the marginalized.
