Résumé :
Complete and unabridged with unpublished material, Dawson's observations during his 1878 survey of the Queen Charlotte Islands concerning the Haida culture are presented. In this he had a special interest as an anthropologist, over and above his work as a scientist for the Geological Survey of Canada. From 1875-1898 he explored the northwest coast, mapping, measuring, observing, writing, taking glass-plate photographs and drawing. His sketches from another 1878 notebook are included....

George Mercer Dawson (1849 - 1901) was a Canadian geologist, surveyor and explorer. He travelled in western Canada including the northwest coast and Alaska.. Director of the Geological Survey of Canada 1895-1901. As well as his work in geology and land resources he had a special interest in native culture and languages....
