      John James Anthony Froude FRSE was an English historian, writer, biographer, and editor of Fraser's Magazine. He was born on April 23, 1818, and died on October 20, 1894. As a child, Froude was raised in the Anglo-Catholic Oxford Movement and wanted to become a priest. But after writing the scandalous book The Nemesis of Faith in 1849, which raised questions about the beliefs of the Anglican church, he gave up on his religious career. Froude started writing history. His History of England from the Fall of Wolsey to the Defeat of the Spanish Armada made him one of the most famous historians of his time. Froude was influenced by Thomas Carlyle, and his historical works were often very controversial, which made a lot of people dislike him. Up until the day he died, Froude's book The Life of Carlyle, which included the personal works of Thomas and Jane Welsh Carlyle, caused a lot of trouble. People kept talking about the couple's marriage problems and spreading rumors because of these publications. Robert Hurrell Froude, who was archdeacon of Totnes, and his wife Margaret Spedding, had him. A man named James Anthony was born on April 23, 1818, in Dartington, Devon.
