While studying art at Yale, he was called into action as a member of the National Guard during the Korean War and would ultimately lead a mortar platoon at the 38th parallel. While stationed there, he penned nearly one hundred and fifty letters to his beloved wife back home in the United States. In With Love, From the 38th Parallel, Robert's son Steven Larsen has compiled his father's wartime correspondence to relate not only a love story but also a unique perspective on life during the Korean War. Featuring Robert's accompanying drawings and dozens of photographs, the letters offer valuable insight on army life and the experience of combat, specifically what it was like living in a firing bunker on the front lines. Biographie:
Robert Larsen worked as illustrator, portrait artist and freelance cartoonist for over 50 years. He published over 500 editorial cartoons in the Needham Times and was awarded First Prize in the Editorial Cartoon division in 2003 from the New England Press Association. He attended The Yale School of Art and his work, including portraits and landscapes, has been exhibited at the Copley Society of Art in Boston, the North Shore Arts Association, and throughout New England.
