A Hermeneutical Approach to Religious Discourse in Mexican Narrative explores the complex phenomenon of religious discourse in contemporary Mexico as it appears in four works of Mexican literature: Rosario Castellano's Oficio de tinieblas, Elena Poniatowska's Hasta no verte Jes?s m?o, Vicente Le?ero's El evangelio de Lucas Gavil?n, and Carmen Boullosa's La Milagrosa. Catherine L. Caufield examines how it is possible to write lived experience as fiction as well as how it is possible that fiction can stimulate the reader to imagine the lived world differently....

The Author: Catherine L. Caufield received her Ph.D. in religious studies from the Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. She is currently Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Using narrative analysis and critical reflection, Caufield is currently investigating the role of religion in women's decision making related to their health and the health of their families....
