The book chronicles a year in the life of the author as she navigates family illness, bereavement and motherhood while honouring and cultivating the poetic life she has created. Weaving family interactions and personal reflections with observations of the natural world and accounts of the weather, the book creates an intimate space in which the reader becomes a participant in an evolving present. Lucy Sheerman's elegantly filigreed poems act as open letters in complete sentences and somehow dwell in a completely emotional, existential space between a kind of fairytale allegorical world and one that's personal and thoroughly modern. Biographie:
Lucy Sheerman is currently writing a book about Jane Eyre retellings and a memoir influenced by her lifelong obsession with the Bront?s. Past work includes Fragments Salvaged from Her Diary: A Correspondence with Rebecca inspired by Daphne du Maurier's best-selling novel and published by Dancing Girl Press; Even You Song, a multidisciplinary project originally created for Peterborough Cathedral that explored whether couples could make the long journey to the moon together; and Rarefied (falling without landing), a sequence of poems about the Apollo moon landings published by Oystercatcher Press. This new book, Pine Island, was inspired by one of Bernadette Mayer's writing experiments, which suggests writing a daily letter that will never be sent to a person who does or does not exist. Lucy lives in Cambridge with her husband and four children.
