Set against the backdrop of the temporary phenomenon of general lockdown, Perumal Murugan's novel deals with some of the permanent problems of human life. There are two journeys in the novel. One is a road trip and another is the inner journey through life. Both travel in parallel lines influencing each other in the narrative. The novel examines the values of love against the backdrop of the inevitable nature of real life. The novel takes a closer look at the nature of love, its transformations and the pains it causes in the context of various elements that try to penetrate the natural attraction between a man and a woman. It signifies the strength of love that cannot be controlled by social values and customs. The novel unfolds from the perspective of the youth of today's generation and appropriately accommodates the views of the generations of yesteryear.
