Ramblings from the Trail: Wet Feet, Soiled Dress, and Defining Historical Truth brings to life the audacious spirit of those who explored the Midwest and how they were connected not only with nature but with each other in surprising, complex ways. At the heart of the work is Elizabeth Fries Ellet, for whom the Elizabeth Fries Ellet Interpretive Trail along the Minnesota River is named. Ellet was considered a significant writer and well-known for The Women of the Revolutionary War. But it is her writing about the natural world and her discoveries during her sojourn throughout the Minnesota River valley that set her within the ranks of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and others. At the vanguard of what is now referred to as the walking text, Ellet embraced the American landscape and its exploration. This book invites us to step out and see what she experienced.

Biographie:
Vicki Pellar Price spearheaded and realized the Elizabeth Fries Ellet Interpretive Trail (EFEIT) 16 years ago. She is director of Writers Rising Up to Defend Place, Natural Habitat, Wetlands (since 2001). The 501 (c) (3) literary nonprofit is based in Eden Prairie. The Elizabeth Fries Ellet Interpretive Trail was a four-year project the non-profit undertook to create a permanent guide to Eden Prairie's history and natural biomes in a 125 acre stretch of untouched prairie, big woods, sedge meadow, oak savanna, and bottomland forest of the Minnesota River. The non-profit has partnered with the Arboretum on writing workshops and readings related to place and natural habitat with Minnesota writers Carol Bly, Bill Holm, Paul Gruchow, Deborah Keenan, Joyce Sutphen and Michael Dennis Browne and plant discovery walks with Shirley Mah Kooyman. Pellar Price has a BFA from California Institute of the Arts (Chouinard Art Institute), and MLA and MFA from Hamline University. She was a member of the Eden Prairie Human Rights and Diversity Commission 1997-1999, the Eden Prairie Historical Society 2007-2015, the Eden Prairie Community Education Partnership Breakfast 2004-2009, and the Eden Prairie Flying Cloud Airport Advisory Commission March 2015-16.
