Résumé :
This complete edition of Patrick Fairbairn's classic study of Bible prophecy contains all volumes, allowing readers to refer to his vast commentary upon the Old and New Testaments from a single book. The belief that scripture of the Old Testament predicts and is related to the New Testament guides the hand of the author. Multiple revisions and corrections were carried out in accordance with Fairbairn's strict standards; reflecting the truths of Bible scripture accurately and with clarity is a constant mission. In diligent reaction to appraisals of his earlier works, we find the author's later editions lengthened with more detailed treatments of certain prophecies and controversial Biblical events. Given the wide-ranging scope of his work, Fairbairn uses the first book to introduce and explain the systematic methods he undertook to arrive at a proper analysis. The various events of the book of Genesis, and the symbolic meanings of many passages and events described, are treated with extensive discussion. An abundant study of the Old Testament focuses upon the laws and teachings of the Israelites, and the instructions given by God. Throughout his narrative Fairbairn keenly points out the links between Old Testament symbols and prophets, and elements of the New Testament.
Biographie:
Patrick Fairbairn (1805-1874) studied at Edinburgh University from 1818 to 1826. In 1853 he was appointed to be Chair of Theology in Aberdeen, and in 1856 became Principal of Free Church College in Glasgow. His published works include his 1845 'Typology of Scripture' as well as his posthumous 'Pastoral Theology'.
