Présentation Give Me Back My Mountains de Albert Wass Format Relié

Résumé :
This story is set in Transylvania, Hungary, a region governed by Hungarian kings since the 10th Century. Transylvania became a pawn of world political maneuvers at the end of World War I with the Treaty of Trianon signed in Paris, 1920. A bitter tug-of-war ensued between Romania and Hungary throughout the first half of the20th century. At the outset of this novel, Transylvanians have been under Romanian rule for some twenty years. As the story unfolds, boundaries are redrawn and Transylvanians become jubilant at being freed from Romanian control and back in the arms of their Hungarian motherland. Jubilation then turns to desperation as they fight to protect Transylvania from Russian invasion. Desperation turns to fear and defeat, first when the Eastern Bloc is created and followed by the 1956 Soviet Union invasion of Hungary to crush reforms.
Biographie:
The author, Albert Wass de Czege, was himself a victim of the strife endured by the people of Transylvania. Wass Albert, as he is called in Hungary, was born and raised in Transylvania as part of an aristocratic family who owned large tracts of land. After World War I, the land was seized when Transylvania was traded from Hungary to Romania. While this book is not autobiographical, there are very close parallels to his own life and it is emblematic of the tragic struggles Albert Wass endured and witnessed. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 and died in February of 1998 in Astor, Florida. To this day he is considered a hero by his countrymen who revere him as their country's greatest author. During his lifetime, he was an acclaimed novelist and poet, and admired for his wisdom, wit and charm. His poetry and novels are required reading in the public schools of his home country, Hungary.
