Beyond its eminently testimonial nature, his rich photographic and journalistic production opens a powerful path toward debate and reflection. His career is the result of a difficult apprenticeship and long experience.
He finished his journalism studies in 1984 and treated himself to a sabbatical year. He went to Central America where he taught himself photography. In 1986 he began to travel regulary as a journalist, as a freelance reporter by Heraldo de Arag?n newspaper. The recent concession of Spain?s National Photography Award, which has recognised the work of a photojournalist for the first time.

Gervasio Sanchez (b.1959) is among the most accomplished photojournalists today, and this book compiles seven of his most important and trenchant black-and-white series. Reflecting Sanchez's travels to war zones in Iraq, Kosovo, Sarajevo, Sierra Leone and beyond, the collection is a sobering look at the devastated lands and lives, ruined cities and incapacitated hospitals that often remain the untold stories of war.
