Using XML we'll define data exchange in such a way that future applications will also be able to negotiate an exchange format - even in the face of minor programming errors or evolving data definitions. Using LDAP this can take place on a network where we query for the services without knowing their location. The result is a distributed computing environment that will remain robust and secure while users and resources are in flux. What does this book cover ? The 5 Principles of Cooperative Applications Development. An introduction to topical networking subjects such as XML and LDAP. Platform-neutral approach to concepts of interoperability, reuse, and accessibility. How open standards such as XML and LDAP allow non-vendor specific nodes of a network to communicate. Practical case studies and code you can use today. In developing his theory and the accompanying applications Stephen uses a number of enabling technologies : ASP, ADSI, JavaScript, MSMQ, and Scriptlets. While a basic knowledge of at least the concepts behind these is required, the reader need not be an expert in each of these fields as a brief introduction is provided.
