Nourse (1928-1992) was an American science fiction writer, physician, and nonfiction author whose work helped define an intelligent, practical strain of mid-twentieth-century speculative fiction. Trained as a doctor, Nourse brought unusual authority to stories concerned with medicine, biology, public health, space travel, scientific responsibility, and the ethical pressures created by new technologies.
