Résumé :
Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung stehen Wandmalereien, Skulpturen, Bilderhandschriften sowie K?rperbilder des 16. Jahrhunderts in Mexiko. Julia Kloss-Weber analysiert, inwiefern viele der im Rahmen der Neuspanien-Mission entstandenen Bilder Alterit?t, also Identit?t stiftende Andersartigkeit, thematisieren. Gleichzeitig fragt sie nach jener Form von Alterit?t, die Bildern als Spannungsfelder einer ,ikonischen Differenz' (Gottfried Boehm) zukommt. Dadurch werden zwei Diskursfelder zusammengef?hrt, die sich bisher weitgehend unabh?ngig voneinander entwickelt hatten: Reflexionen auf Konstruktionen des ,Anderen' im Rahmen der Postcolonial Studies und bildtheoretische Debatten. So wird deutlich, inwiefern Bilder nicht nur zwischen Kulturen vermitteln, sondern selbst Gegenstand transkultureller ?bersetzungsprozesse sind.

Biographie:
Julia Kloss-Weber has been a private lecturer and acting professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Hamburg since 2022. In 2010, she was awarded her doctorate for the thesis Individualisiertes Ideal und nobilitierte Allt?glichkeit. Das Genre in der franz?sischen Skulptur der zweiten H?lfte des 18. Jahrhunderts (Genre in French Sculpture of the Second Half of the 18th Century) at the Freie Universit?t Berlin. Following this dissertation, she worked at the Alte Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin before joining the DFG research group Transkulturelle Verhandlungsr?ume von Kunst. Komparatistische Perspektiven auf historische Kontexte und aktuelle Konstellationen, where she wrote her habilitation thesis entitled Bilder der Alterit?t - Alterit?t der Bilder. Zum transkulturellen Potenzial von Bildern in ?bersetzungsprozessen zwischen Neuspanien und Europa im 16. Jahrhundert (On the transcultural potential of images in translation processes between New Spain and Europe during the 16th century).
