      T. Obinkaram Echewa is a prolific author of literary and children's fiction born in Aba, Nigeria in 1940.

      Echewa moved to the United States in the early 1960s, earning a Master's degree in journalism and eventually a doctorate in communications.

      His debut novel, The Land's Lord, won the The English-Speaking Union prize in 1976 while his 1992 novel, I Saw the Sky Catch Fire, was a New York Times Notable Book. In 2012, he was invited as a keynote speaker at the 10th International Conference of the Igbo Studies Association at Howard University, Washington, D.C.

      Echewa was an English professor at West Chester University, Pennsylvania and continues to work as a writer.
