Présentation The War Chief de Edgar Rice Burroughs Format Broché
- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
A great surprise from Burroughs and from 1927. This is unlike anything else I've read from ERB. It replaces the fantasy and imagination that made him famous with an unexpected authenticity and attention to detail. And both an anger and compassion. A very good early red indian pulp novel written by a man who used to hunt them, and who had the courage to say it was wrong and to say something important about in the midst of the pulp. (Jonathan Ammon) About the author: Edgar Rice Burroughs, (born September 1, 1875, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.-died March 19, 1950, Encino, California), American novelist whose Tarzan stories created a folk hero known around the world. Burroughs, the son of a wealthy businessman, was educated at private schools in Chicago, at the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts (from which he was expelled), and at Michigan Military Academy, where he subsequently taught briefly. He spent the years 1897 to 1911 in numerous unsuccessful jobs and business ventures in Chicago and Idaho. Eventually he settled in Chicago with a wife and three children...
Biographie:
Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American novelist and one of the most influential creators of popular adventure fiction in the twentieth century. Born in Chicago in 1875, Burroughs worked in a variety of jobs before turning to fiction and quickly finding success in the pulp magazines. His imagination ranged across jungles, deserts, lost cities, prehistoric worlds, alien planets, and heroic frontiers, and his fiction helped define several overlapping traditions: jungle adventure, lost-world romance, planetary romance, science fantasy, and fast-paced pulp storytelling.Burroughs is best remembered as the creator of Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, but his wider body of work is much broader than those two famous figures suggest. His novels and stories brought together danger, romance, survival, exotic geography, ancient civilisations, strange creatures, and bold speculative premises in a form that proved enormously influential on later science fiction, fantasy, comics, film serials, and adventure fiction. For readers of classic science fiction and fantasy, Burroughs remains a central figure: a writer whose instinct for momentum, setting, and wonder helped shape the imaginative vocabulary of modern popular storytelling....
