Frank Love Letters: Basic Training documents the start of a true Toronto-based love story of an Irish-Canadian and his new bride as they prepare for him to adjust to military life in 1943. Their story starts with written correspondence between Burleigh Falls, Ontario and Toronto, Ontario during their courtship in 1941 and continues in July 1943 as Grandpa (Horgie) arrived in Brantford, Ontario to start his basic training to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, Grandma (Peach Pie) is preparing for the birth of their first child and starting a family back home in Toronto. Their story has drawn me closer to loving myself and others. I invite you to read and reflect on something that you are truly longing for, and then do what it takes to get it. Above all, and every day, be loving, be compassionate, and be kind. Grandma and Grandpa, I failled miserably at remembering and honouring your sacrifices for our country and the free world with how I led my life. I'm taking up the fight for the Four Freedoms and do what I can, with what I have, 1% better every day. The truth hurts, but it also sets people free.
