'Rising', de Lawrence Brownlee est un nouveau projet, enregistré pour une sortie sur Warner Classics en juin 2023 à l'occasion du mois de la musique noire, pour lequel Lawrence Brownlee a chargé six des principaux compositeurs afro-américains d'aujourd'hui de mettre en chanson la poésie de la Renaissance de Harlem. 'Rising' présentera de nouvelles oeuvres de compositeurs afro-américains, Damien Sneed, Brandon Spencer, Jasmine Barnes, Joel Thompson et Shawn E. Okpebholo. Inspirées de la poésie des grands écrivains afro-américains de la Renaissance de Harlem comme Alice Dunbar Nelson, Claude McKay, Langston Hughes et James Weldon Johnson, les compositions s'articuleront autour des thèmes de la joie, de l'autonomisation, de la foi, de l'amour et de la force face au défi.
