In the year 2030, an interstellar asteroid enters the outer reaches of our solar system. Its appearance triggers the formation of SOLAR, a global defence programme stationed on Mars. But things never go according to plan... When the system designed to protect the Earth fails, the world erupts into chaos as the countdown for the arrival of the asteroid begins.For Aurora, her life gets turned upside down when her family receive tickets for bunker relocation. They must try and reach Inverness, navigating through a surge of riots, looting and natural disasters brought about by the asteroid. Meanwhile, Chidi is manically helping prepare the Inverness Bunker for the influx of new inhabitants. Not only did the SEIA IX crew fail to change Viatrix's path, but now they must sit and watch as the asteroid hurtles towards Earth. Preparing the backup plan for humanity, playing Martian golf and carrying on with scientific experiments does nothing to distract Alex from the guilt and horror she feels at not being able to help her own and the billions of other families back on Earth. As a newly qualified research assistant at ICERN, Rav regularly works with the world-famous Dr Heike Bartal, the scientist who discovered asteroid Viatrix seven years ago. After gaining her trust, he unexpectantly finds himself at the centre of the backup plan to divert the asteroid, flying across the globe with Heike as they make plans to try and save the world, even if those in power believe it's already too late....
