Sur son troisième album et premier pour l'étiquette britannique Warp , Kassa Overall se révèle davantage comme compositeur et réalisateur que comme batteur. Le musicien de Seattle, qu'on a vu aux côtés de Ravi Coltrane et de Christian McBride (entre autres), offre ici sa propre et passionnante vision d'une fusion entre le rap et le jazz qui emprunte autant à la musique électronique qu'au soul orchestral, accentuant les contrastes, voire les conflits, entre ces genres pour mieux en souligner leur contribution au vocabulaire jazzistique. Il parvient néanmoins à proposer un album étonnamment cohérent qui semble suivre un fil narratif à travers lequel on entend les voix des MCs Danny Brown (sur Clock Ticking) et Lil B (sur la fabuleuse Going Up, en conclusion), ou encore de la chanteuse Laura Mvula (puissante et hypnotique So Happy), le trompettiste Theo Croker et le pianiste Vijay Iyer (méticuleux sur The Score Was Made) collaborent aussi à cette réussite.
