Bénir est un acte de parole qui relie deux êtres. L'intensité, la qualité et la signification de la bénédiction résultent de relations qui se tissent et se racontent. Les Écritures en offrent des exemples à profusion. Dans la Bible, la bénédiction se faufile entre confiance et jalousie, entre désir et convoitise, entre fidélité et tromperie, entre autonomie et mainmise elle s'immisce entre fraternité et concurrence, entre stérilité et fécondité elle relie le père et le fils, le cercle familial et le peuple d'Israël, l'élu et les nations. Elle devient un signe qui encourage la relation vivifiante entre l'humain et Dieu, celui-ci se révélant à travers elle à la mesure de son interlocuteur, qu'il soit personnage du récit ou lecteur.

A blessing is an act of speech that unites two beings. The intensity, quality and meaning of the blessing result from the relationships that are formed and expressed - the Scriptures abound with examples. In the Bible, blessings thread their way between trust and jealousy, between desire and greed, between fidelity and infidelity and between autonomy/independence and dominance. They intervene between fraternity and competition, between sterility and fecundity, linking father and son, the family and the people of Israel, the chosen one and the nations. The blessing becomes a sign that fosters the invigorating relationship between mankind and God, the latter revealing himself therein at the level of the former, whether they be biblical characters or readers.
